Even though you may think that every animal should have a fierce and scary appearance, you are wrong. You may even not have a clue that some animal in your surrounding is extremely dangerous.
You should definitely be careful if you are from Southwest Florida or plan to visit this area. The reason behind that is the New Guinea flatworm.
The flatworm was discovered in 2015 in the Miami region. Unfortunately, the flatworm was later also spotted in a flowerpot in Cape Coral. Experts say that this deadly creature managed to come to Florida with the help of plants or produce coming from the South Pacific.
This deadly flatworm is recognizable for its dark color and orange stripe down its back. According to an environmental scientist from Florida Christopher McVoy, he saw one of these creatures in his driveway.
After that happened, he conducted a research on this deadly flatworm. Christopher McVoy asked a researcher in Paris at the Museum of Natural History for an opinion and tips, but he could not provide him with the necessary information.
The infection can be easily passed to people since the worm infects mice and rats. This infection can cause negative consequences to the human body and its overall health. This infection can damage the human’s brain and spinal cord.
This means that any contact with the flatworm can cause danger to your life.
Besides being able to kill a large number of small animals such as snails and lizards, the flatworm is also dangerous for the ecosystem since it can damage shrubs, trees and other vegetation.
Take a photo of the animal and contact the authorities in case you see a New Guinea flatworm in the Southwest Florida.
Many researchers are doing everything in their power to prevent the spreading of this dangerous animal elsewhere in Florida and the United States. If you live in this area and noticed something, contact the authorities immediately.
